Objectives

2018 is coming to an end. It’s been a busy year of caching, including a bunch of new countries and a lot of exploring.

It was a busy year, for holidays, caching, and work. Some of the undoubted highlights were:

  • A trip to Tokyo in February when Kas has a place in the Tokyo Marathon, which proved to be a bit of a cultural adventure.
  • A monster trip to Paris at Easter with Ami to hit a massive series of puzzles. We had a day off in the city too.
  • Another trip to Northern France for the Geonord event in Dunkirk. It was their final one of the “Four Elements” series – dedicated to Fire. That’s not really an element, but then water, earth and wind aren’t either.
  • A few business trips to Guernsey, a place I’d never been to before.
  • An epic driving tour of Northern Italy, pretending we were doing an “Old Skool” Grand Tour. You know, where you try to visit everything even vaguely of cultural interest. We have a wider range of cultures to look at than the average Victorian young adult.
  • A trip up the Lake District with “the lads” in the flash motors, for a bit of Wainwrighting and a lot of beer.
  • And right at the end of the year I got another new job.

So I got around and about all over the place, especially compared to a few of the previous years. It was tiring but generally satisfying. Interspersed with the big trips there were also lots of days around the UK for various caching series.

So here we go. A whistlestop tour of my year in tupperware, in the form of a list with links to specific blog posts for the longer days (i.e. those where the caching was significant enough to warrant an individual post). You will notice that a couple of months were quite quiet and others were a bit wild.

  • June – 3 finds

Summary

So there we have it, my 2018 Caching Diary. So what did I actually achieve:

  • A total of 1,553 finds
  • Four new countries – Japan, Guernsey, San Marino and Cyprus (courtesy of Kas)
  • 15 days ticked off my Shifty Fifty Challenge
  • Five days of more than 100 finds
  • A new monthly record of 434

I’ll take that. A pretty decent year. Not massively voluminous, but with lots of variety.

So there we have it, the end of my 2018 Caching Diary. Aside from, of course, a lovely matrix of all the individual posts for 2018.
