An Excellent Week
We took a trip up to the Lake District in the kids spring half term of 2016. It had been a while since I’d last been, and this trip refreshed my memory and enthusiasm for the place.
Travelling and Staying
We’d booked a lodge at Low Briery which looked big enough for the four of us. It’s worth noting we only traveled up on Sunday, because we’d been in Liverpool over the weekend (see Muttley’s Delight). We were in my car, as it’s a bit bigger than Kas’s.
The lodge turned out to be a little cramped but not too bad. Thankfully we weren’t planning to spend a huge amount of time in the place anyway.
Location, Location, Location
Low Briery is on the outskirts of Keswick, in the shadow of Skiddaw and just off one of the main road junctions on the A66, so it was easy to get to and well placed. Certainly a suitable base for touring around The Lakes, which is just as well, because that’s mainly what we spent the week doing.
The Geocaching
The geocaching was not really geocaching, to be honest. We’re here with this post because I did a bit of geocaching, but mainly because we walked up quite a few Wainwrights while we were there. I hadn’t done any since 2004, mainly because we hadn’t been to The Lakes since, but also because walking up Wainwrights wasn’t really a family mission up to that point.
