One of my Favourite Places
Cumbria is England’s most three-dimensional county. Of England’s 100 highest points, all but two are in Cumbria and all but five are in the Lake District. But it’s not just a festival of hilliness. Cumbria also has a beautiful coastline.
It is undoubtedly my favourite English county as far as scenery goes. I could never tire of going there. And as you can see from the posts on here, I have been there quite a lot.
Obviously the most prominent feature is the Lake District National Park, but the county also contains a beautiful if remote coastline and further hilliness inland.Over the course of my adult life I’ve probably been there ten or more times, but it’s a place I never tire of. I could happily go there for the rest of forever, to be honest.
Yes, it’s a little spartan where the geocaching is concerned, but it does take you back to the “old skool” days of caching when you’d walk for a whole day to find a couple of caches. They are generally hard earned but worth it.
Trips
Since I’ve been a cacher though (or a Wainwrighter) I’ve made the following trips – these are the ones that were long enough to warrant a blog post or two. There have been some other “drive-by” visits too:
- A long weekend in 2004 in February
- A full week’s holiday in May 2016
- A long weekend to attend a running event in September 2016
- A weekend away with the lads in November 2018
- A full week’s holiday in June 2019
- A full week’s holiday in August 2021
- A fortnight’s holiday in July 2023
- Driving visits on my way elsewhere in May 2024
- A weekend away with the lads in November 2024
Individual Posts
So here are all the geocaching blog posts I’ve written for trips to Cumbria.
