Southern Europe
I started off thinking I’d make this page just about the Mediterranean, but then that meant I’d have to do a whole other page to cover Portugal. That seemed wasteful, so here we are with a page about various exploits in the southern parts of Europe.
Specifically so far, southern Europe means various trips and family holidays we made to Greece, Italy, San Marino, Spain and Portugal. There are other countries in Southern Europe, but I’ve never been to them. Well, I’ve never been to them while I’ve been a blogger or a geocacher, so in terms of recording my memories, the two things are the same.
I have deliberately included the southern parts of France into a separate page, because I’ve geocached in France so many times that it definitely justifies a page all to itself.
Greece
In 2022 we took a family holiday on the island of Crete, which conveniently ticked of Greece as a country I’ve cached in.
Italy
We took a family holiday in Italy in 2018. It was a driving epic. A mini Grand Tour if you like. The objective was to visit as many interesting places as we could in a two week period. In rough order, we went to Milan, Bergamo, Lake Como, Turin, the Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Urbino, San Marino, Bologna, Venice, Verona and Lake Garda.
Portugal
Portugal is somewhere I visited a lot during my younger days, both for holidays and for work. Since I had a family, and since I started geocaching, I’ve been twice more. The first of those was a long weekend in Lisbon running a half marathon in 2013. The other was a family holiday in the Algarve in 2015.
Spain
We took a family holiday in 2017 near Barcelona. On this trip we visited Girona, Barcelona, Montserrat_(mountain) and a few other places.
