A Family Holiday

We took a family holiday in Catalonia in the back half of August 2017. I’d previously only been there in 1973, when everything was in black and white apart from Agnetha Fältskog’s trousers. I was knee-high to a grasshopper then.

Travelling and Staying

After sorting some flights with Vueling, who I’d never previously heard of, we had a disgustingly early appointment at Luton Airport. Luton is without doubt my least favourite UK airport (or the ones I’ve flown from, obviously). Why? It just is. I’ve just never found it a pleasant experience. Having said that, leaving Luton with Vueling was great. Well organised, and queues separated from the well-known bright orange people.

We’d booked an aprtment in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which turned out to be adequate. Nicely furnished but a bit small, I guess. Still, it had an excellent view and it had a pool on site. The only downer was that the apartment keys had to be fetched from a place that was a half-hour drive further north. What with the farting around trying to park, that meant we arrived at the apartment probably two hours later than we might have done.

For driving around I’d stepped up a couple of notches from my normal holiday car rental, and we had a Volvo S60 for a fortnight. It was a squeeze for four people with luggage, but we only had to do that twice.

But anyway, by Saturday night we were in our apartment, having been shopping and been out for dinner.

The Geocaching

When this site was more of a family blog than a geocaching one, I wrote a post for every day. Many of them were days of doing nothing and half were certainly days of not doing any geocaching. So when I decided to just focus this blog on geocaching, half of the posts were discombobulated. What remains are the seven days out of fourteen in Catalonia where a) we made a trip out somewhere and b) I did a few caches while we were out. A couple of days are just ones where I went caching because the kids just wanted to hang about by the pool.

A positively Olympic day involving mountains, castles, stadiums and thankfully few naked Greek blokes. Well, none, actually.

A visit up to Santa Cristina, slightly inland from our apartment, for a bit of walking and geocaching while the girls had a lazy day.
