Objectives

As another year ends it’s time to write my 2019 Caching Diary. I didn’t really plan anything for this year, because if I’m really honest I was running quite low on enthusiasm. It proved to be my slowest year ever with the exception of the very first (see 2010 Caching Diary).

I enjoyed the caches that I found and the days out that I had, so maybe the slow year wasn’t all bad. I returned a little bit to thinking about why I enjoy caching in the first place. So, no targets, no ambitions, no regrets. Just a bit of caching when the mood took me.

It was a busy year for holidays as well as for caching. Some of the undoubted highlights were:

  • A family holiday in the Lake District in May / June, which turned out to be mainly wet, with a side order of soggy.
  • A trip to France in August to visit the Pyrenees and the Ardèche in one go. The Ardèche was on the cards just because Kas had seen the Tour de France passing through the area in the previous year. After all that countryside we crashed in Grenoble for a long weekend before coming home.
  • A trip to Aberdeen in early August to visit the UK Mega Event.
  • A “lads weekend” in the Brecon Beacons in November.

I guess I got around and about quite a lot but my mind wasn’t really with the geocaching.

So here we go. A whistlestop tour of my year in tupperware, in the form of a list with links to specific blog posts for the longer days (i.e. those where the caching was significant enough to warrant an individual post). You will notice that a couple of months were quite quiet and others were a bit wild.

Summary

So there we have it, my 2019 Caching Diary. So what did I actually achieve:

  • A total of just 650 finds
  • No new countries
  • 4 days ticked off my Shifty Fifty Challenge
  • No days of more than 100 finds and only 4 days of more than 50

So a slow year. I’m not sure why. I just didn’t have the feel for it, I guess. Anyway, my new job was quite busy, in a good way.

And as ever, to finish off we have, a lovely matrix of all the individual posts for 2019.
