Warm and Sunny
A two-week family holiday in the Algarve, enjoying the sunshine. We travelled around a bit whilst also allowing chill-time.
Travelling and Staying
We took the simple option of booking the whole trip with Thomas Cook. As it was a package, we got flights and accommodation included in the price. Getting a car was an upgrade option. Most people travelling with Thomas Cook apparently don’t take one. I guess they must stay in their accommodation the whole time or use TC’s paid excursions. That’s not what I like to do.
The villa turned out to be a two-bedroom terrace in the middle of a block. However the rooms were well-sized. It was also a small place – only 15 or 16 villas and a shared pool. So it wasn’t a mass of screaming children and drunken bums.
Location, Location, Location
We were in the village of Sesmarias. It’s a few km out of Albufeira’s centre, to the north-west. It wasn’t quite coastal, but the sea was less than a mile away. And as extra compensation, there was a handful of little restaurants and bars, and two supermarkets, within farting distance.
The Geocaching
This wasn’t a holiday where I’d deliberately planned full days out geocaching. We traveled to a few places and I tried to do a couple at each place. Plus there were a handful of days where the kids (especially) didn’t want to do anything at all. So I was able to pop out in the car for a couple of hours on several days.
