Objectives
As another year ends it’s time to write my 2020 Caching Diary.
I didn’t really plan anything for this year, and due to circumstances somewhat beyond my control, opportunities were rather limited. It (again) proved to be my slowest year ever with the exception of the very first (see 2010 Caching Diary).
I enjoyed the caches that I found and the days out that I had, so maybe the slow year wasn’t all bad. I returned a little bit to thinking about why I enjoy caching in the first place. So, no targets, no ambitions, no regrets. Just a bit of caching when the mood took me, and when we were allowed to go out.
I enjoyed the caches that I found and the days out that I had. There were a few cracking days spent in the company of people I’d not cached with before, and this definitely helped to re-ignite the spark.
2021 eventually was a somewhat improved year compared to 2020. Global pandemics aren’t very good for the caching statistics. The pandemic lockdowns gradually became the stuff of legend. Plus I managed to find the time and energy to meet up with friends and go out caching in groups more often.
I began the year by grabbing myself a new GPS device. It wasn’t strictly necessary, I guess, but I like a new toy every now and then. Some of the highlights were the first London Calling event, the mega in Lincoln and the Pokemon-based series up near Warwick.
So here we go. A whistlestop tour of my year in tupperware, in the form of a list with links to specific blog posts for the longer days (i.e. those where the caching was significant enough to warrant an individual post). You will notice that a couple of months were quite quiet, despite the new toy.

Summary
So there we have it, my 2021 Caching Diary. So what did I actually achieve:
- A total of 1,223 finds
- No new countries
- 16 days ticked off my Shifty Fifty Challenge
- Just one day of more than 100 finds
It was a decent year, given the previous one. I got back into the swing of it and I had a couple of excellent mega events to attend. I haven’t (still) finished the Difficulty/Terrain grid and I still haven’t finished the “Full English”.
So there we have it, the end of my 2020 Caching Diary. A year of very little caching. Not being able to go out for six of the twelve months had some effect. What can you do? Anyway, here is the usual pretty matrix of all the days in 2020 where I did manage to get out caching, and where I made enough finds to justify writing a whole post.
