The Home Counties
South-East England (in geocaching terms) consists of the counties of Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey. I’m a bit of a rebel though, so I have included the region of London into my South-East England posts. I mean, I know there’s a lot of people in London, but that just means there’s less room for caches. I have to say though, that you’ll find half of my South-East England posts are therefore days in London.
It kind of all joins up, and I know I’m rambling a bit. So instead of that, I’ll try to get on with the point of this post. As if there’s ever a point to any of this.
Tricky to Get To
Aside from London, South-East England was always a bit of a nightmare to get to from Milton Keynes, when I lived there. Presumably it still is, just not for me any more. It’s even more of a nightmare from Leicestershire, where I live now. The reason for the nightmare is that you either have to go through or around London, and neither of those is especially palatable as a travelling option. Getting to Sussex, for instance, from anywhere north of London is a massive pain in the twinkles. You’re stuck with either crossing central London on the Underground, or parking your car for hours on end on the M25. That contributes in some way to the reason why there’s so few posts for the area despite it being physically quite close.
Having said that though, I have ventured around the M25 a number of times. Frequently these trips were part of family weekends away for running trips. You will also see a couple of dedicated trips where I drove into Kent from home just to go geocaching. It’s quite a fruitful area to visit, despite the awkwardness of getting there.
Individual Posts
So here’s the now traditional grid of geocaching trips to my slightly extended definition of South-East England.
