Nearly Brittany
A family holiday for two weeks in St Malo in the summer of 2010. We were joined on the trip by my parents, which meant an interesting drive down, but some welcome company and free childcare at various points.
Travelling and Staying
I don’t know where we booked the accomodation, but we were staying in a big house in the middle of the St Malo Golf Club in the village of Le Tronchet. It consisted of a first floor flat with 2 bedrooms and a separate annex with a further bedroom and bathroom. It was a bit out of the way, but there were supermarkets nearby and it had a swimming pool.
We travelled down through the Channel Tunnel on the train and stayed at a random chain hotel in Rouen to avoid having to drive all the way in one day. Because there were six of us, we’d acquired a roofbox for the car. That meant we could just about get six seats, six people, and six people’s luggage into the one car. It was a bit full though.
Activities
It was a family holiday, so whilst it was the first overseas trip we’d made as geocachers (aside from our first ever cache, which we found in Morocco), we tried a bunch of other things too. We went to Mont Saint Michel, Bayeux and the Côte de Granit Rose, all of which are major tourist locations. We also explored the acquarium at St Malo, and spent a few days generally not doing much.
The weather was generally pretty good apart from a couple of days when it was a bit grey.
The Geocaching
It was our first full holiday as geocachers, and we were still in the phase where all four of us would go hunting. Geocaching wasn’t the main theme though. So generally we’d grab a couple each day whilst doing something else. Kas and I went out on a few evenings to do a few more, but mainly just to get out for a while on our own.
