Ryoland

In the area around Royston in Hertfordshire there is a veritable cornucopia of geocaching excitement. This is ryoland, so called because there are reams and reams of caches placed by ryo62. He’s maybe the busiest cache setter in the country.

I’ve been caching in this area for maybe 10 years, since back when the cache setter was knee-high to a grasshopper. You will see from the posts that there are some villages here that I’ve been to on multiple occasions. Some of them are beginning to feel like second or third homes. I’m getting to know where the good parking spots are.

ryo62 likes a good puzzle series. Nothing complex, mind. Just well-planned series of easy-to-find caches that usually form some piece of geoart. They tend to be quick to solve and they are always position with accurate coordinates and good hints. What that means in practice is that a day’s visit to ryoland is likely to be a very fruitful one.

ryo62 also likes to honour people who find his caches by setting further simple puzzles based on their name whenever they pass 1000, 2000 and now 3000 finds of his caches. Yes, there are people who’ve found more than 3000 caches placed by the same owner. And because some series get archived and replaced, ryo62’s caching account must look very busy. At the time I wrote this post, in 2024, I have passed 2000 ryo62 finds, and there’s a “Congratulations 2000” cache waiting for me over near Duxford.
