France
I’ve made quite a large number of geocaching trips to France. Some were dedicated geocaching trips as part of visits to events, and others were days taken as part of a family holiday. Because France is so close, and because it’s easy to get to from where I live, it’s an obvious place to go. It also happens to be full of geocaches in most areas. As a result, France is by far and away my second most productive country for geocaching (after the UK). Some of the highlights have included:
- In 2010, a family holiday in Saint-Malo during my first ever year as a geocacher;
- In July 2016, my first visit to a Geonord Mega Event – the “Water” event in Valenciennes;
- In August 2016, a family holiday in Chamonix;
- In June 2017, my second visit to a Geonord Mega Event – the “Air” event in Saint-Omer;
- In spring 2018, a dedicated caching trip to the outskirts of Paris to attempt the Mystery Trail du Val d’Oise series – over 600 puzzles spread over a wide area to the north of the French capital;
- In July 2018, my third trip to a Geonord Mega Event – the “Fire” event in Dunkirk;
- In 2019, a family holiday which took in the Pyrenees, the Ardèche and Grenoble;
- In 2024, a family holiday with a week in the French Alps followed by a week in Nice.
