A Busy Day

I’d had a busy old day doing some decorating, working in the garden, going to a garden centre and snoozing on the settee. When it got to about 3:30 I decided it was a shame to waste the afternoon by sitting inside, so time for a bit of caching. I decided on some urban caches, after yesterday’s muddy walks. I had a decent backlog of Church Micros to do at Ashby’s churches. Just enough to fill up a couple of hours, in fact. So off I went.

The Context

It had been a lovely day. In the morning I’d sat outside on the patio for a while and thought it was really quite warm. The sun was bright too, and no wind. It’s the first time this year (well, this weekend is) when I’ve started to feel it’s not winter anymore.

So it had already been an active and pleasing day. I could have chosen to snooze on the sofa all afternoon, I know. But instead I chose to go out for a couple of hours. I originally thought I’d go for a drive, but I’d left it late enough that I only had two hours of daylight, so going to Ashby for a densely packed area felt better.

I parked in the centre of Ashby. The various Church Micros there were going to take me all over the place.

Legging It

I’ve listed the churches below, so I’m not going to describe them all in detail. My walk took me from the bottom corner of the Bathgrounds and then south and west before turning north through housing estates up to Ashby Castle. Up there I finally found a puzzle that I failed to find a few years ago. I needed a phone-a-friend though.

From here I walked back down the main street and then made a star shape by walking out along Derby Road/Smisby Road, then Burton Road, and back down Kilwardby Hill.

So in about 90 minutes in Ashby I walked around the whole town and found 9 caches, 7 of which were Church Micros.

One for the Road

There was just enough daylight left to pootle up to Smisby for one last Church Micro. Smisby is just over the county border into Derbyshire.
