A Slow Start

After a couple of days of walking (for me) and mooching around town (for the kids), we had a quiet start. We decided the night before to go for a walk up Arthur’s Seat if the weather was good. The weather turned out nice again, so after a quick breakfast, me and Minimus set off for a bit of a climb. Our other team member decided she’d rather stay in bed for a bit longer, which was fine.

Up We Go

When I lived in Edinburgh many moons ago I was absolutely sure you could park very close to the bottom of Arthur’s Seat. I was also sure you could drive around Queens Drive and park halfway up. But not so any more. Or at least, not so today. Today we had to park down by the Scottish_Parliament_BuildingLScottish Parliament and walk up.

Don’t get me wrong. We were happy to do it, and it’s not a strenuous climb really. It just took us a bit longer than it might have done.

Up the Top

At the top there was what you might call a crowd. There was a constant stream of people walking on and off the summit plateau. I guess it was Easter Sunday but still, busy innit? So you can see in the photos that we had to keep queuing to get on top of any of the “sticky-uppy” bits. And even then every shot is full of spare heads.

There were two geocaches up there. One is a Virtual, and I did that one. The other was an Earthcache.

The walk down was much like the walk up, only easier. And the view was different.

Mooching Around

The plan for the afternoon was quite relaxed. It involved a lot of nothing. With a side order of not doing much. That was all OK because we had some appointments to fulfil later.

So after we got back from Arthur’s Seat, Minimus and me had a quick lunch snack and a drink somewhere and we retired to the hotel.

Afternoon Activities

The kids fancied a trip over to Maison de Moggy, which is much as it sounds. A cafe full of cats. That would have me spending the next three days feeling like I’d been chewing a fur ball, so I didn’t go. As it happened, there was a caching event on the Grassmarket. It was at the same pub I’d done an event in five years previously, when I came up for a work event. And, in fact, the event was at the same table too. This time though, I learned my lesson, and I didn’t neck four beers in an hour. It was hosted by a couple from San Diego who were over for the weekend. They got some good weather. Not many other people came (just a couple aside from me), but that was OK. The pub was busy and we had a good chat about all things geocaching-related.
