An Early Morning Wander
Through the latter half of the year I’d got a number of days in which I needed to grab a cache to colour in a day on the matrix. To address this issue I’d kept back a number of holidays so I could take time off. Well, to be honest, we hadn’t been on a large family holiday, so I had loads of days left. I spent the morning in Hockeridge Woods, which contained a convenient-looking patch of 20 caches in a confined area.
I therefore had a series of half-days off to go geocaching. One was a full day, but most were half days. I remember this was a morning trip, in which I got up and left early. Still dark kind of early, but not early enough to avoid all the traffic.
I parked in some random roadside location on the edge of the Hockeridge Woods and headed in.
The woods were quite good as an experience. The caches were all of quite good quality and fairly easy to find. That’s often not the case in the woods – the GPS signal can wander. It was also autumn of course, which means everywhere was knee-deep in fallen leaves.
The walk around the woods didn’t quite take up all of the available time, so I had time for more. I managed to grab a couple of extras outside the woods before coming back home at lunchtime. I learned a couple of lessons about what to carry in my caching bag on this trip. Drinks and snacks, for a start. Despite being cold and damp it was quite tiring and I needed a drink, but hadn’t taken one.
I learned a couple more lessons about how to geocache under trees too. The phone signal was a bit variable and the whole job was a bit slow.
